Admissions 2017-2018

NOTE: Admissions for the 2017-2018 school year are now closed.

However, due to our recent expansion, we are still accepting application only for the following grades:

  • Grade 4
  • Grade 5
  • Junior High (Grades 7-9)

Fees

  • New Horizons is a publicly funded school. We have no tuition fees.
  • Charter schools are not supported by Bill 1: An Act to Reduce School Fees, which has been passed in the legislature and has received Royal Assent. Therefore, we will be charging for regular school fees. In order to assist parents, however, NHS will be reducing fees for the 2017-2018 school year.

Important Dates

  • The 2018-2019 admissions process will be posted on this page by the end of November, 2017.
  • January Information Night For Prospective Parents: January 16 at 7:00 p.m.
  • March In-School Assessment Day (Date to be determined).

In order to assist you, an Admissions Handbook will be available in November, 2017.

Kindergarten: General Procedures

Note: Specific details will be made available in November, 2017. The following steps may change for the 2017-2018 school year.

Step 1: Complete On-Line Application Form 

Step 2: Complete On-Line Parent Inventory for Finding Potential

Step 3:  Complete the On-Line Parent Perspective Form

Step 4:  Cognitive Assessment  

  • In order to be eligible to enroll into New Horizons school, the student must demonstrate superior cognitive ability.
  • Parents have two options for a cognitive assessment.
    • Assessment Option 1: No-Fee Assessment in March
    • Assessment Option 2: IQ Test with Registered Psychologist
    • Assessment Option 3: Combination.
      • Parents may choose to have their child assessed in-house (Assessment Option 1) and individually by a registered psychologist (Assessment Option 2).

Step 5: Observation Activity

  • All prospective kindergarten students must attend an observation activity  during the March intake day, including those who are providing an individual IQ test instead of using the school assessments.

Grade 1-9: General Procedures

Step 4: Provide a copy of your child’s most recent report card.
