This Week at NHS (June 24 – 28)

Welcome to the final week of the 2018-2018 school year.  As always, the school year zips by, and we find ourselves facing another summer. It will be a busy week with exams, year-end activities, and an awards ceremony on June 27, the last day for students.

 

Monday, June 24 (Day 2) 

  • Math Exams (Grades 6-9)
  • Family Hot-Dog Lunch: Last Day to Order
    • To wrap up another great year at NHS we are inviting all families to join us for a Year End Family Hot Dog Lunch! Join us from 12:00-12:30 for a hot dog picnic with your kids on the last day of school.
    • Place your hot dog orders by today along with exact cash.
    • On June 27 bring a picnic blanket, pick up your order and take it out to enjoy in the sunshine with other New Horizons Families.

Tuesday, June 25 (Day 3) 

  • Language Arts Exams: Reading (Grades 6-9)
  • School Council AGM at 7:00p.m.
  • School Council Meeting at 7:15 p.m.

Wednesday, June 26 (Day 4)

Reminders …

Parenting Gifted Children –  Research Opportunity

Emails were sent out to junior high parents inviting them to participate in a University of Calgary study on parenting gifted children. If you are interested in assisting with this Canadian research on gifted children, please refer to your email or contact the school.

 

Final Exam & PAT Schedule

Final exams for grades 7 & 8 students and PATs for Grade 6 & 9 students begin this week. All exams begin at 9:00 a.m.

Please refer to the email sent out earlier for more information.

NHS Family Hot Dog Lunch: June 27

To wrap up another great year at NHS we are inviting all families to join us for a Year End Family Hot Dog Lunch! Join us on June 17 from 12:00-12:30 for a hot dog picnic with your kids on the last day of school.

Place your hot dog orders now, then on June 27 bring a picnic blanket, pick up your order and take it out to enjoy in the sunshine with other New Horizons Families.

Please fill out the order form indicating  the number of hot dogs you will be purchasing. Forms are due by June 24!

 

Year-End Awards Ceremony (Grades 45-9)

Our Year-End Awards Ceremony will occur on June 27 at 1:15 p.m. after the Family Hot Dog Lunch. PArents are invited to atend.

 

Debate Camp

For the second year, New Horizons School is excited to host the Edmonton Area Debate Camp from July 29 – August 2. The camp is open to students from Grades 5 – 11.

Formal Day and Dance at NHS: Friday, June 14

Grade 6 student Isabelle has organized a Formal Day and Dance (Grades 3-9) for the school on Friday, June 14, as a part of her Leadership Individualized Program Plan goal. This is a cost recovery event.

  • Shakespeare at NHS
    • Ms. Watson and Ms. Joly’s Grade 5 students will be performing A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Julius Caesar beginning at 2:00 p.m.

The last Book Fair of the year is here this week. It’s the popular “Buy 1 Get 1 Book Fair” for the full three days.

This event is organized and run solely by parent volunteers.  Please sign up here if you are available for a 2 hour Book Fair cashier shift. There are two shifts remaining!
