Those of you who drive you students to school will have noticed the large pool of water at the entrance of our parking lot. We have contacted a service that will be here on Wednesday to open the channel so that the water can drain away!
Reach for the Top is a fast-paced quiz challenge where teams of four compete against one another to test their knowledge on questions in a wide range of categories. This program has been in schools across Canada for decades and New Horizons has participated for the past 2 years.
Students in grades 6-9 practice at lunch and after school on Mondays.
We have 2 junior teams and 1 intermediate team registered this year.
We have our first competition at the Regional Tournament taking place March 10 at Old Scona Academic School. Since only 4 students participate for each round of play we rotate students through the games to ensure everyone gets the chance to compete.
Thank you to Ms. Vigfusson for coaching the teams!
We have many items in our lost and found collection. Please come in and find what your child might be missing.
If you have been in the school lately, you will have noticed that our lost and found items are now in the hallway near the kindergarten room. Thanks to the organization skills of Mrs. Beztilny, all the items are sorted into labeled bins according to item and approximate sizes.
Please take the time to snoop through the bins if your child has lost some items.
On Thursday, March 1, our Grade 5/6 Nighthawks participated in a mini-tournament after school and into the evening. We had three teams in event. The tournament gives students the opportunity to play for 30 minute straight time games with regular substitution times, and no score is kept. The intent is to get students playing basketball and enjoying the game.
It was nice to see so how our NHS students improved from the last event. Congratulations, Nighthawks!
Thank you to Mrs. Groten for coaching the team over the last few months. That was a huge commitment and it was wonderful watching the growth of the players. Thank you as well to Ms. Joly for being the teacher sponsor and manager. A thank you is also extended to the EICS Sports Council for including us in their league.
Because many students were out of the school on a field trip yesterday, NHS celebrated Pink Shirt Day today.
The audience at our assembly was definitely a “sea of pink.” Through a combination of videos, spoken words, and performances by the T/Th Kindergarten class and Grade 2K, students were made aware of what Pink Shirt Day is all about, and how each of us can play a role in reducing instances of bullying.
Thank you to Ms. Kooger and Ms. Stephens for organizing and running the assembly. Thank you also to student Lexis P. for taking a leadership role and speaking at the assemble as well.
At last night’s Board meeting, the 2018-2019 school calendar was approved. You can access the calendar by following this link, or by accessing the “Calendar & Bell Schedule” page on the Quicklinks section of our website.
