The week of December 5th to 11th is Computer Science Education week and NHS is excited to participate with events happening throughout the week. Students in grades 3-9 will have the opportunity to listen to speakers on a variety of interesting topics from gadgets and software to computer security! Students will also get the chance to participate in Hour of Code where students get hands-on experience in Computer Science! Thanks to all of the teachers participating and a special thank-you to Mrs. Watson for organizing all of the activities for this week of Career and Technology Foundations (CTF) learning!
Miss Mackinnon’s grade 1 students were studying about belonging in groups. Her students said they belonged to “NHS” and “Nighthawks.” From there, the students came up with the idea of designing a flag for our school. The class created three designs and they voted on the one that they thought was the best. Each student had a job to do in the creation of the flag shown below. They were very excited and it helped them understand that the school is a place of belonging.
With the modernization in full swing, our school certainly looks like a construction zone. However, the architect drawings we have of the finished product keeps us optimistic that once the modernization process is finished, we can look forward to an amazing place to call home.
Our Parking and Traffic Management Plan has been updated to reflect recent changes in our parking patterns. If you drive your child to school or pick up your child after school, please take the time to review the plan by followingthis link.
Over the fall break, the modernization process has begun. Those of you who may have traveled past the school lately may have noticed that the west wing of modular classrooms have been removed to make way for new modulars that will be installed as part of phase 1.
The interior is beginning to look like a modernization zone as all ceiling tiles have been removed and phase 1 spaces have been sealed as they are being demolished.
While the halls are a bit gloomier with no ceiling tiles, we are anticipating what the finished school will look like.
Please be advised that parking at NHS will change beginning Monday morning.
Below is an image that depicts the parking stalls that have been designated as construction worker parking. Keep in mind that the first 6 stalls that are against the school sidewalk belong to the staff of ECDT.
The only visitor stalls in the parking lot for the duration of the modernization will be the first four angled stalls when you enter the parking lot.
Parents bringing their children in for out-of-school care, please respect these parking arrangements as staff (construction and school) come in early and at varying times.
After 8:00 a.m., the parking lot will be a stop and drop only. Please remain in the driving lane and in your vehicle as your child independently enters the school.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation during this exciting time.
