The junior high students had their first Investigations Fair today. Students from grades 4-9 signed up for various sessions from a choice of over 50 sessions. This year’s first Investigations Fair focused on a demonstration. Junior high students chose an area of interest and expertise, prepared promotional posters and pamphlets, and practiced their demonstration skills to the participants. Presentations were wide ranging and included such topics as learning to play ringette or cricket, to making perfect braids, doing the Rubik’s cube and making the perfect sushi.
We had our K-Grade 3 chess tutorial today at lunch recess. Fantastic turnout – over 40 students! A tutorial will be given to those kindergartens not in attendance today. Thank you to all the junior high students who assisted with the tutorial.
If you have a chess set that is tucked away somewhere, is not in use, and you feel you can pass it on, we would gladly accept it!
Regular play will begin for all students when we are finished our tutorials.
NHS is having it’s Remembrance Day Ceremony tomorrow (Friday) afternoon at 2:27 p.m. Parents are welcome to attend. Poppies are available in the office for students to wear at the ceremony. Please provide an appropriate donation.
Please remember that Wednesday is an early dismissal day (2:14 p.m.).
As well, our I & C afternoon will be postponed until after the fall break. Our intention was to introduce the Math Fair on Wednesday. However, we have recently learned that a representative from the Telus World of Science is willing to come out to the school and speak directly with the students shortly after the fall break. We are certainly excited with that news. Therefore, the I & C afternoon will be postponed until then.
Chess has arrived! Thank you to the families who passed on some chess sets! We will be holding a chess tutorial from students from grades K-3 on Thursday at lunch. As well, we will begin our first Rubik’s cube tutorial for interested students from Gr. 4 and 5 tomorrow at lunch. Students were informed today.
